MATES will host a webinar “MOL2 – Pilot Training Initiatives Key Takeaways” on the 26th of March 2021

MATES is hosting a webinar “Maritime on the Loop of Ocean Literacy – Pilot Training Initiatives Key Takeaways” on the 26th of March 2021 at 10:30-11:30 CET.

Objective of the webinar: To present the Maritime on the Loop of Ocean Literacy (MOL2) Pilot Experience results to interested stakeholders and open a debate on its potential impact and replicability.

You are invited to join us for a meeting on how STEAM skills and Ocean Literacy were promoted among secondary school students. The Pilot Experience MOL2 was carried out in two locations – in Spain where students learned how to design and build a solar-powered radio control boat and in Italy where students were exposed to new digital technologies used in the maritime sector such as 3-D scanning and photogrammetry. Both events used fun, non-formal learning methods as a way to teach students.

The results of our experience will be shared by MATES partners CETMAR and COSNAV Engineering. We are looking forward to opening a debate about its potential impact and replicability to upgrade training in the maritime sector.

The invitation to attend the webinar may be of particular interest to those working in the education and/or maritime sector such as higher education managers (VET and secondary schools), marine technology companies and ocean literacy experts. Please register here.

In addition, if you would like to join the MATES network of experts, please complete our online questionnaire and contact mates@cetmar.org.

Programme:

10:30-10:35 Introduction: meeting objectives and partners involved in the MOL2.

10:35-10:50 3D scanning lectures undertook in Trieste (Italy).

10:50-11:05 Technical workshops in the framework of a raft competition developed in Galicia (Spain).

11:05-11:30 Debate, Questions and Answers.

Further information on MOL2 is available here. All of the MATES Pilot Experiences have been developed based on the results of extensive desktop research, stakeholder engagement and prioritised lines of actions (resulting from consultation with MATES experts). The Pilot Experiences are composed of a series of activities (such as training) that aim to address identified skills needs in the shipbuilding and offshore renewable energy sectors. During MATES, a critical review of the Pilot Experiences will be carried out which will help form a long-term skills strategy and action plan for both sectors.
