The MATES consortium has just released promotional videos for each of the 11 MATES Pilot Experiences. These are training initiatives focused on the shipbuilding and offshore renewable energy sectors, which have been running since 2020 across several European countries. Many were carried out online because of the ongoing Covid 19 crisis, a challenging situation which enabled the Pilot Experiences to develop and test innovative new educational resources, using a learning outcomes approach. Encouraging feedback has been received from participants of the Pilot Experience initiatives and the MATES partnership plans to roll out the educational resources and learnings in the New Year. These will be made freely accessible on the project website.
Each of the promotional videos explains the opportunities that have been made available to participants and the innovations which have taken place across the Pilot Experiences. The design of each Pilot Experience is strongly aligned to the industry needs captured through extensive stakeholder engagement over the past four years.
From marine energy fundamentals, building a prototype of a rotor for a windmill, 3-D printing, Big Data, Ocean Literacy, providing MOOCs for shipbuilding, building a real-scale part of a ship’s hull and climbing a wind turbine, the initiatives have been proactive providing students with hands-on experience and giving students direct contact with industry. One over-arching Experience has identified occupational profiles for new and emerging jobs providing transparency for up-skilling and reskilling by identifying the skills and competences required for new jobs on the horizon.
A series of Layman Reports for each Pilot Experience will also be published in the New Year, coinciding with the release of the educational resources. All of the videos are available below to view on the MATES YouTube channel:
- ED2MIT: Education and Training for Data Driven Maritime Industry (Training for topics related to data literacy, data management and modern platforms for digitalisation in the maritime industry)
- MOOCs on Industry 4.0 and the naval sector (Shipbuilding, Integrated Logistic Support and Industry 4.0)
